I have been trying to repair an OfficeJet G85 which had a problem with the paper tray - it couldn't be pushed all the way in after a user had refilled it in a slightly over-enthusiastic manner.

I've managed to isolate the problem to a small black plastic arm which is part of the paper tray housing, which sits beneath the tray, and it now sits in the printer as it should do. However, having done this I also found a small metal part lying at the bottom of the paper tray housing and I'm not sure what it's supposed to be attached to. When I turn the printer on now, I get a paper jam message. The rear half of the paper tray lifts briefly for a sheet of paper to be fed, but the sheet is never actually gripped.

I can mail a photo of the part if it helps.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any help.

I'm not *exactly* sure this will help you (and the reply is a bit late as well), but I believe this part *may* be the paper kicker plate. If it is, on one end it will have a notch in the middle and the two "prongs" will be bent down to a lower level. there should also be two holes in the bottom of the chassis that it fits into as well. Bit hard to get into without stripping the printer down, but I managed to get one into a 970cxi :) From what you are saying you can see the black rod that pushes this metal plate up to feed the paper..... OR I could just be mistaken :)
