I have an officejet 7210 that displays the message "carriage jam".
It says “open door, clear carriage jam then press ok.”
Paper is clear.
A restart doesn't change anything.
Try performing a factory or "cold" reset. You'll have to look up your model at HP's site for instructions, there isn't a whole lot you can do with inkjets/officejets. If that doesn't fix it, may be time for a new printer. They aren't well made printers.

Yeah, I'm waiting to hear back from the user after a cold reset. Sorry to hear that the printer isn't well made since we just deployed a bunch.
Thanks for your help,

I've seen some cases where people pull the carriage off of the metal guide rail... I dont know if they are body slamming their printers when they change the carts or if they get a bit too frustrated during a paperjam..
I would try to manually move the carriage around on the guide rail.. if it doesnt move smoothly try to press down on the carriage, trying to "snap" the carriage back onto the guide rail... it should move freely.. once you are done push the carriage all the way to the home/start/cleaning position all the way to the right or left..
Not enough voltage I guess, I have seen something similar to that. Glad you worked it out. But yes, try to stay away from inkjets, laser is the way to go. For black/white printing you want to look at the 2000 or higher series, if you need a reliable color printer for multiple users, look at the 4000 colors. Much more expensive, but they have a solid duty cycle to work well in an office environment.
