Office2000/Windows98

A further plea. I have Win98 and Office2000 professional.
When I attempt to start Excel2000 I receive the following:
'A fatal exception error OE has occurred at 0177:Bff9DBa7. The current application will be termiated.

PRESS ANY KEY TO CONTINUE.

When a key is pressed I receive:

Excel cause a general protection fault in module USER.EXE at 0006:0000575f. The option was to "Close". When that was selected the system hung and had to be rebooted.
I have WIN98 is upgrade to the latest as is OFFICE2000. OFFICE2000 has been uninstalled and Installed to no effect.

Try finding the excel.xlb file (normally in c:\windows\application data\microsoft\excel).
Rename it to say, excel.old. Now try running Excel.
