Hello All,

In My Documents folder I have some files that look reaaly strange.

For instance if I had a Word file named example.doc it would
show up in this folder as ~$ample.doc I know this isnt a temp
file because the extension would be .tmp Does anyone know what the problem is. If I open it I see some sort of code.

Any feed back would be appreciated

Thanks!

Hi,

These files usually exist only while Word is running, and should be deleted by Word it closes. However, the files will remain there if Word crashes. Then, re-starting Word may enable the Autorecover process to re-load the files up to the last recovery point (if you're using this - see Tools|Options|Save|Save Autorecover info every # minutes). If the files still remain after shutting Word down normally, they can safely be deleted.

Be aware too that other apps create temporary files too, and you shouldn't try to delete any that they own while they're running.

Cheers
