Office XP (Word/Excel) hang during SAVE AS

Two seperate installations are having this issue:

When attempting to perform almost any file manipulation within Excel or Word (Office XP), the application goes to sleep/freezes. After a few minutes, it will allow you to navigate one directory at a time (between freeze-ups). Ultimately, doing any file manipulation functions but only after several long hangs.

I've not found any information on this on MS's web site.

Latest service packs are in place
