I installed Service Pack 3 for Access 2002 some time ago. Ever since, when I repair/compact a database that has no reference to Office Web Components, a reference to Office XP Web Components is inserted.
Here's the problem: once this reference has been inserted, Access 2002 users with SP2 installed get various errors when certain code runs.
So EVERY time I repair/compact a database I have to check to see if this reference has been inserted. If so, I have to remove that reference.
How can I stop this run-away train? Is there a setting in Access that I can change to make this stop?

BTW if you are thinking that recently I didn't check as I should have, you would be correct :-(

It is possible to check for reference programmatically and add:
Auto add Reference when Access opens
thread705-367996
Or remove them:
[tt]Set ref = References!Word
References.Remove ref[/tt]
Which may suit as a work-around. [ponder]

Thanks for the ideas, Remou. I will use them in future databases.
I already have a workaround. I add references to "Office Web Components Function Library" and "Office Web Components Wizard" when removing the reference to "Office XP Web Components". This seems to leave a placeholder such that subsequent database repair/compacts do not switch to the XP version that is causing so much trouble for me and my users.
In other words, once I identify a database that is vulnerable to this problem, I can fix it in the above manner.
What I REALLY want is a way to set my Access installation so that it no longer inserts this reference to "Office XP Web Components". Any ideas?
And thanks again for responding!
