I have spent over 4 hours trying to install the Office XP Developer disc onto a system with Win98. so far about 20-30 restarts. On 3 occaisions the instalation seemed to work, but then a "Failed" message appears. I am no closer to getting it installed. I wish I had not spent my own money on this.

This is a very finiky product. I would not reccomend it to anyone unless you have a great deal of time, and only if you are paid by the hour. Has anyone encounter instalation problems? If so any solution? The MS site has no info on this problem. It is unfortunate that MS gives such sparce support. They should be ashamed.

I had no problems at all installing it. Before you install ANY "major" software, you should end task on everything EXCEPT Explorer and Systray. Virus checkers and the like will keep stuff from installing properly.

Hope this helps! dreamboat@nni.com

I was hopeful Hasit had the solution, but the fix noted above has nothing to do with the instalation of the development disc itself; it refers to packages prepared with the developer tools.

As an update; the attempted and failed instalation has created several new system problems. My only choice will be reformating my drive and trying from scratch. Thanks for the helpful hints. No thank you to Microsoft for wasting my time and money.
