I have an accounting program based on Access 97 file format. All newer versions of Access will convert files to new format and screw up my accounting system. I want to upgrade to newer versions of office without upgrading Access 97. Do I have to buy stand alone version of Excel, word etc.? I presently have Office 2000 Professional but can't use.
Thanks

Are you sure it didn't install Access 2000 without removing your old Access....look in Programs/office for something call "another Access" or "Old Access"...Access2 or something like that.

I think The install just keeps your old stuff if you choose that option during install...but installs the new also.

Actually I have the OEM full version of Office. It allowed me to not to install Access 2000, but after install Access 97 was gone, and all the DB files were the access 2000 Icons. I was told by my software vendor if I had installed Access 2000, the only way to get rid of it was by a reformating HD. Might try it again, and look for old file, like you suggested.

Thanks for the help. I was sucessful, and I think I did not properly de-select installing Access 2000 in my previous attempts.

Yes you can have BOTH versions of Access on your machine at the same time.
Normally the office 2000 installation will overwrite the old unless you install to a new directory.
You may still have Access 97 on your H/D - if not reinstall from office 97.(new directory)
If you have both old and new on your drive your file associations will point to Access 2000 by default but you can have a Access 97 shortcut on your desktop for your access 97 DB's.
