Hi

I am running Office 97 on Windows 98 Second Edition PC.

The problem I have is that when you close Word or Excell when you have had a document open it takes an age to close. If you close any other program the computer is fine.

I have tried a couple of things to sort this out without success they are.

1. Virus scan (found two worm viruses) these files where deleted and the system is now clean.

2. Re-Installing Office.

3. Adding an extra 128 MB RAM (Now have 192)

I have defrag my hard drive regullary but am really stuck because it is slowing my day down considerably !

any help would be gratefully appriceated.

PS the PC Specs are PII 400 Mhz, 192 MB ram

Thanks

Carl

Have you tried Disk Cleanup or Disk Defrag?

Disk cleanup will take out all of the temp files you no longer need, and look at any software that was removed, and get any pieces left behind.

Defrag reorganizes the information on the hard drive, and makes it more compact, and organized. This may take a while (several hours in cases) so plan to leave it for a while.

Try opening Word with the /A switch. Open a document and close it and see if you have the same problem. The switch is for Word to open without any of the templates or add-ins. If Word behaves then it is a template or add-in that would be the culprit.

Is this on a stand alone system or is it networked? joegz
