Office Icons - Where are they stored? 1

I'd like to use the icon graphics (e.g. the "Open File" or "Save File" images) in the WORD and EXCEL toolbars, but I don't know where to find them. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Excel97 : View Toolbars Customize, then select the Commands Tab.

Find the Icon you wish to use, then drag it to the toolbar to store it. To delete, drag an icon off the existing toolbar.

Tip : While this last window is open, you can reposition new or existing icons.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'd like to use the icons in emails to my office staff. For instance, when referring to the "Insert Table Row" icon, many in the office would not know what I meant. If I could include the image in my email, it would be much more effective.

Are the icon images .gif files? Are they .ico files? Where do they reside? If not accessible to me on my computer, is there a website from which I could get them.

I don't know where they reside ....... maybe someone else does and will jump in.

However, if you wish to use the images of the icons, take a snapshot of the screen and paste into MSPaint. From there you can strip out clutter and create individual images, or better yet, create a file for each Toolbar. Then, within your Email, add an arrow pointing to the specific icon you wish to refer to.

I don't believe the icons are "stored" anywhere except, perhaps, in the code of the program itself. Here is the perfect way I know of to do what you're trying to do. I used this method to create an advanced Word 2000 test for

You get a 45-day free trial. Install it and make sure you check the settings before you start. It's not difficult, just go through the menus before you start. You can reply back here if you've got a question--I'll see if I can give you specific advice. Anyway, set it up with a shortcut key--I used alt-p to turn the capture "on" because I didn't want to invalidate ctrl-p, which is Windows shortcut key to print.

When you "activate" it, your cursor changes to a crosshair and you "draw" a box around what you want. The hard part was for me to try to get my toolbar boxes to be square and the same size. Anyway, when you let go of the mouse after drawing the box, you can set it to automatically put your "capture" on the clipboard or save it as a file or whatever you want. It's really terrific.

If you want to create a bunch at a time, you can just turn all your toolbars on while you create them. For your purposes, you may want to save as gifs, I guess.
