Office Docs Print Twice

Installed a 4200tn on the network and then created a script to allow the users to install the driver/port. One of the PCs that installed the driver has started a strange behavior.

The PC is running Win2K fully updated. The docs remian in the Q with "printed" in their status but they never go away. Also, MS Access & Excel later reprint their docs so we actually get 2 copies from just those programs.

I have reinstalled the driver twice. The PC prints fine to other network printers but we have only the one 4200 (others are 5180, 5Si). Other PCs are running the same OS & XP and are printing fine.

Any suggestions?

Unchecked...

I just deleted the printer, downloaded the driver from HP, installed overwriting the old driver and the behavior returns. However, the user has other similar network printers, like a 5Si that work perfectly.

Load a Laserjet 4 driver, and point to that printer. See if you can duplicate the behavior.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

Are you using the Novell client on this computer? Maybe NDPS printing? What about any print capturing software or older, DOS based programs that would require that a printer port be captured?

Are you using the Post Script driver by chance? I have come to find that it is best always to use the PCL drivers. The lastest version is 6, but if you are using the PCL 6 drivers, try rolling back to PCL 5e.

If you want to make sure it is a driver problem, try loading the HP Laserjet 4si drivers for this printer. I wouldn't recomend keeping that driver installed because eventually you will have some problems with MS exel printing graphs or large speadsheets, but it is a good idea for troublshooting purposes. The 4si driver is a generic, light wrieght driver that works with just about everything. Test it with those drivers loaded. If the problem goes away it is a driver problem and can be fixed by installing other driver version, or by tweaking the advanced settings for the 4200 drivers.

If it is not a driver problem, it most likely will have something to do with either the office settings or network client software.

Hope this helps

Good Luck!

Chris

Update:
No Novell
No Postscript
Nothing capturing port (IP Port)(Windows)
I downloaded & loaded the PCL 5e driver and the queue still retains the docs, however, the duplicate printing seems to have quit. User lost patience with me before I could try the 4si driver...maybe sneak in during lunch.
