Office Applications lose windows focus

We are running Office 2000 release version, SP1 and SP2 on windows XP, 2000 and NT are are having the same problem with all of them.
When, for example, you run Excel first time in the day, and you click 'print', the dialouge box never gets the window focus and excel just sits in the task bar flashing away. The only way to regain control is to ALT-TAB away from excel and back again (mouse methods have no effect). When you have done it once for the day, there is no problem until next time you reboot.

Any ideas?
