Office Applications hanging

When trying to open a file from within word, excel etc. and then changinging the Look in drop down the application always hangs. Tried in Notepad and didn't get the same problem.
Event viewer showed below :

You probably need a hotfix, it's usually free. Please take a look at Article 912022 at Microsoft.
