Office 97 print preview buttons are greyed out

I need help trouble shooting an office 97 problem. the options buttons located along the top bar of the print preview of any document are greyed out.
i tried uninstalling a reinstalling, no help.
Any ideas to what else i may try to fix this issue?

Is there a printer installed on the PC? If not, you won't be able to preview, it uses the print drivers to format the page.
