I recently got a new computer and I am trying to install a legal copy of Office 97 (I used it on my old system). The operating system on my new computer is Win98. When I try to install Office 97, the installation starts, I enter the product id number and then when it starts to copy files, I get a message that says "Set-up could not read from file Off97inv.dll", the options are to Abort, Retry or Ignore. If I ignore, it copies a couple of files and then gives me the same message about a different file and so on. I thought the CD may be damaged, so I tried installing it on another Win98 computer and it worked fine. I have also used the CD drive to install other programs without a problem, so I don't believe it is the drive.

Does anyone know what the problem could be??

Thanks!

Different CD readers are just that.

Try washing the CD with soap and a soft cloth. This sometimes works wonders.

I had a similiar problem with another software and my Norton Antivirus running. When I turned off my Norton, the installation went beautifully. Try this!

Just an idea!
