We get the following error message when trying to install office 97 on an Window XP machine. Can anyone please help on what this error means?

C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

choices are: Close or Ignore

If you try to choose close or ignore it still will not load

Thanks,
Tina

Thanks Jeff for taking us right to the site without endless searching!

I have a user in uk who has this same problem. There is no CD out there for me to place in. I have to remote to her pc. Any suggestions?

Well if you have a CD at your office, and the machine you are connecting to in the UK is on the same network, you should be able to insert the CD into your machine, share the CD drive, then connect to the machine in the UK and map a drive on the remote machine which maps back to your CD drive.

If both machines are using XP Pro, try using "Remote Desktop Connection" to connect to the remote machine, and before connecting, go to the "Local Resources" tab and down on the bottom of that tab, check the "Disk Drives" under "Local Devices". This way, when you are connected to the UK, and you go to "Windows Explorer on the remote machine, one of the drives listed should be your local CD drive (noted as "D:\ on XXXXX" - where XXXXX is the NetBIOS name of your local machine).

Let me know what, if anything worked for you.

Good luck.

...or just expand the files on your machine to a temporary folder, remote connect and copy them over the wire.

Saves a lot messing with network shares!
