Office 2016 Activation Headaches

Apparently, since Office 2013, Microsoft has been trying to push everyone to going to Office 365 or else purchase volume licensing instead of purchasing one license per computer.

Where I work, it's been decided to still purchase one license per computer, and now we're enjoying the headaches of attempting to install and activate Office 2016.

The latest headache for which I see no way around at the moment is what appears to be a limit of 2 Office Product Key installations on a Microsoft account in a given 24 hours. First, I thought it was per day, but it must be a hard 24 hours.

Here's what's going on: apparently I installed 2 copies of Office in the last 24 hours, though I only honestly remember one. I went to install another (I thought the second) at the end of yesterday - around 4 or 5pm, and this morning at just before 7:30am, I cannot install a second copy. Oh it'll let me install, but the only options it gives are the ones I "added to my account" prior to the Product Key I hold in my hand.

Does anyone know of a good way to work with this? The IT Director here stated he had spoken with Microsoft, and the only help the rep offered was that if each of us use our own Microsoft account for installing the copies of Office, then at least we won't step on each other's toes, making it easier to know which Office installation to choose from our account. However, in this scenario, no matter what I do, Microsoft tries to push me to another installation that has a totally different Product Key.

The Install from Disk option also did not work well. I tried that, and once you have more than one copy of Office on the same accuont, when you install, you are still prompted to log into your account, and then choose a copy of Office. Well, all it tells you is something like this:

Choose your Office:
Office 2016 Home and Business
Office 2016 Home and Business (2)
Office 2016 Home and Business (3)
Office 2016 Home and Business (4)

In that list, it tells you nothing to give you a hint which is which. You can guess that (4) in the above list is the most recent, but that also does not appear to be correct, as I did try that on one installation. Also, it seems that the order of Office installations in this pop-up is not the same as the order of installations listed when you log into your account, frankly I'm not even sure there is ANY order.

So I try to call Microsoft Customer Support line, and the only thing I get to eventually is them saying it'll cost $499/hour for any after hours support requests.

If I've ever had something that made me want to consider finding a way to take an entire business away from Microsoft Office, this is one. Unfortunately, I doubt that'll be possible, at least not for the near term.

With each installation, I've got the "OEM" license key in my hand, type it in, and that makes no difference whatsoever.

Does anyone have any thoughts or experience as to how I may can work past the activation headaches?

Thanks for any hopes of sanity.

As a follow-up, I've at least managed to gain some sanity. Here's what I'm finding so far:
[ol 1]
[li]The reason I can't find the Product ID attached to my Microsoft account is that when you add an Office installation to a Microsoft account, they create a brand new Product Key. So then the Product Key from the card is then associated with the newly created Product Key. Once I realized that, I've started trying to keep track of what card Product Key was associated with what digital Product Key.[/li]
[li]When you add 2 copies of Office in one day to the Microsoft account, I first thought the most recent was then the top in the list. However, that's not the case: instead, it's the bottom for the day.[/li]
[li]In order to see the digital Product Key, you go into your Microsoft account, view the Office installations, then click Install from Disk, then click either Have Disk or want to Burn Disk, then click View My Product Key.[/li]
[li]If you try to install at any point, and go to the Office setup website, then punch in the Product Key from the physical document/card, you'll be taken directly to the correct copy of Office (assuming the browser doesn't mess up).[/li]
[li]Given all these findings, I hope to revisit all this after all the installations and a few other items are complete, and get everything documented better in one location to help keep up with what physical Product Key goes with what digital Product Key.[/li]
[/ol]

Hopefully this provides SOME sanity to someone else dealing with the same issue.
