This is driving me crazy...the verticle ruler is only showing the 9" that is going to print but I want to see the full 11 inches..please help me out

You have hidden the top margin.
Point at the top of the document, just below the ruler, and when your mouse turns into 2 little white boxes with arrows in then, double-click.
