Hi all,

My Outlook 2007 is misbehaving. It keeps 'locking up' or 'freezing'. It simply doesn't respond or is hesitant.

All my other applications are fine. When Outlook is playing games with me I can still use everything else fine.

Outlook connects to Exchange 2003.

I have tried disabling my Kaspersky 7 AV but this made no difference. I have no other plug ins.

Any ideas or comment?

Thanks.

I've not had any problems with OL2007 (in fact, it is about the only part of the 2007 suite that I really like)!

I suggest that you delete your normalemail.dotx and see if that resolves the issue.

If not, would you like to monitor to see if there is some sort of pattern that may be a clue. For example, it hangs when you are editing mail or opening an email with an attachmetn, etc. What you have described seems a little vague.

Hi,

This morning I am running Outlook in Safe Mode and it is working fine with no freezing or lock ups!

I am guessing this means it has to be plugin causing the issue?! I will have to revisit this. Perhaps I will uninstall my plugins all together and test that way.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

It means a third party plugin OR the normalemail.dotx is corrupt. Have you deleted it yet?

Hi,

Sorry I forgot to add on the last post that I did indeed search for it but it didn't find anything.

I have looked manually in C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates and in here I found a normalemail.dotm which is currently locked (by Outlook in Safe Mode).

Shall I delete this as a test?

Thank you.

Yes. Close Outlook and either rename is as normalemail.bad (which will let you recover it if needed) or just delete it.

Outlook will recreate it automatically as soon as it is needs it.

Check that the PST database is not corrupted. Go to Program Files, Microsoft Office, Office 12, find SCANPST.EXE and run it.

Hi,

The PST suggestion isn't applicable as I am connecting to Exchange so I don't have one.

The noextension didn't help either.

I switched back to Safe Mode and all works fine.

This morning it is so far working ok again.

Really annoying this one.........

have you tried running the diagnostics [ help menu ]
Is SP1 loaded

I guess you are going to have to analyse the Event Viewer and see what errors it has thrown up for Office 12. Then either press the On Line assistance to see if the KB site has an answer or enter the problem into Google (which usually finds a result).

Hi Peeps,

The diagnostics found one issue and fixed it.

SP1 is downloading as I write this.

Event Viewer has an Microsoft Office 12 error 5000 which I am looking in to.

There are also some previous Outlook errors relating to corruption to the ost file but this hasn't occurred for several days.

I will try SP1 first and then I will try deleting my ost.

After that if I still have the problem I am going to temporarily remove my Kaspersky install.

Thanks.

Don't delete the OST. Run the SCANOST.EXE file (which should have been adjacent tot he SCANPST.EXER I pointed you at.

Deleting the offline store will be a quicker fix than scanning it.

All was working fine. I have been out of office and just came back in. I had an email in my inbox which I then moved into a subfolder. When I did this Outlook locked up for around 30 seconds and then sprang into life.

Raaaaagggghhhhhhh this is soooooooo annoying.

Going to remove my AV and other Plug In's for Outlook now.

Will report back later on, in the mean time any other ideas?

Thanks.

Delete the profile, then recreate it use a different name [profile name].
As it is exch you wont loose anything.

Hi all,

I think I have nailed it!

I uninstalled Kaspersky and went with AVG. The problem still occured.

So I then uninstalled a plug in I use called Xobni.

After uninstalling Xobni all has been ok and I have since swapped back to Kaspersky.

Thanks everyone!
