Office 2007 save as word document in .doc

Hi,

Advice on how to change the 'Default' format in office 2007 applications is well publicized now. However, there is still an issue that no one has addressed. When you click on the Office Button and then mouse over the 'Save As' the first option on the list is to save in the default format (this is NOT effected by changing your default save format) this option will ALWAYS save in 2007 format.

I was also unable to find any switch in the Office administrative templates.

Any advice is much appreciated.

If you set Word 2007's default file format to '97-2003', the click on the 'Save As' button, the default format becomes '97-2003' too.

IMHO, the fact that the Word 2007 file format appears at the top of the list when you hover over the 'Save As' button is of little consequence given that the '97-2003' is the option nearest the cursor at that time.

thanks for your post.
So you don't know how to disable docx for the 'Word Document' option as well?

The fact that the '97-2003' option is nearest to the cursor when choosing 'Save As' does not stop users to select 'Word Document' and with that saving the document as .docx

Disabling the Word 2007 file format can't be done.

In any event, as I previously said, when you've got Word 2007 defaulted to the '97-2003' file format, that's the default when you click on the 'Save As' button. Frankly, I can't see what the big deal is - Word is behaving as I think most reasonable people would expect it to.

You can disable the DOCX format in word 2007 by Uninstalling it and installing a previous version.. that is the only way..
