office 2000 can't rename document

user is running office 2000 on windows XP. cannot rename a word document from within word. Must go to explorer and rename there. from within office it says access is denied. they are the owner of the document.

Is your user connected to a Win 2000 server network? I had this problem and implemented the changes in this Microsoft KB article which fixed it:
