Hey CajunCenturion,

Hows the hotel business there?

In other words, if a traveler (me) was passing through the Lafayette/Opelousas/Alexandria area, are hotels rooms still as rare as winning lottery tickets? How about Shreveport?

I have to travel to Dallas and I sure would like to not make the whole drive in one day.

I know that this was addressed to CajunCenturion, but I'll answer, too. I live less than two miles from CC.

One of the local television stations reported the day before yesterday that hotels in the Lafayette area are still full. Lafayette got evacuees from both Katrina and Rita, and the places of those evacuees that leave are often taken by rescue workers. Baton Rouge is simply busting at the seams.

Other than in the Alexandria area, there simply isn't much in the way of hotels other than mom-and-pop-type places.

I do know that some people evacuated to places along I-20, such as Shreveport and Monroe, but I do not now in what numbers. I think, though, that you will have better success looking for hotels by trying along I-20 than along I-10.

My TT profile has an email address you can use to contact me. Send me an email there, and I'll forward it to CC for you.

I don't see an e-mail address when I look at your profile (by clicking on your name) but then I'm not an admin type here...

The address is there -- it's just mildly obfuscated. It will be in the second line of text, the line beginning with "Email:".

Ah. {slaps forehead]

What I did, of couse, was search for an '@', and found nothing. It's been a busy week - Tesday, the insurance adjustor came out, and now I'm just humming the Jeopardy theme, and waiting...

The contractor said at least $10K worth (mold has settled in because it rained again before we could get tarps over the damage). We live just north of Mandeville, off of LA 59.

Things are getting better here around the Shreveport area. Most have left and you should be able to find rooms available. The casinos usually fill up on the weekends anyways, so try to call ahead of time if possible.

I knew you had come to Baton Rouge from the east. I just couldn't remember how far.

If your water came from the sky, you have a much better chance of getting money from the insurance company.

That it did, no plumbing leaks or anything. The problem was, we were banned from going back there for about a week and a half. It was just last week that the curfew was lifted for St. Tammany Parish.

On another note, they are going to open half of the I-10 twin span between N.O. and Slidell tomorrow (two-way traffic). Fast work. At least it will get some of the Slidell folks off of the Causeway.

Dic mihi solum facta, domina.

Thanks all for the responses. I actually was able to book a room in Alexandria, only for one night though. However thats all I needed.
