Can someone help me understand why my line pools are A - C but the voicemail side only accepts numbers?

I've tried using the 9 I have for linepool A, 8 for Line Pool B and 5 for Line Pool C but none work.

I can assign a line and it works great, but would rather use Line pool so I can redirect outside salesforce to their cells.

Sorry, specs are 300MVL11 DR5 and I want to say VM 2.5 ish

In the voicemail system line pool a is pool 1 and line pool b is pool2 so on and so on
the voicemail system were designed by a third party for Nortel and they see pools as numerical
