The Community College I work for is building a new sports field with a concession stand and maintenance building. The buildings will be located roughly one half mile from the main campus complex. I need a cost effective solution to install analog off permise extensions from our PBX in both buildings without going to SBC, possibly using wireless. Cordless phones are out - They walk. Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks.

You could install a wireless (ethernet) shot and use a set of Multitech MultiVOIP boxes.

OK, so obviously you haven't got any conduit running out there for any other service right?

There is a product (I can't remember who makes it, sorry) that does a point to point wireless dialtone connection. I think it can handle two lines. Are you looking at doing analog extensions? If so, this would work perfectly.

It's designed for homes in rural areas that are a great distance from the MPOE of the phone company.

Thanks, DHCINC, I have been looking into installing a D-Link multipoint wireless bridge along with the Multitech solution.

We just bought a two line 2.4 GHz spread spred spectrum point to point made by ??? I'll find out who made it wednesday morning if you like... it was a company in Nothern California...... they have a fairly extensive web site.

We used a pair of MVP810's with dual hops of proxim quickbridge 20s to provide telephone service to a somewhat remote site. It works ok but we are still trying to resolve a full-duplex voice problem on the remote side.

I've also used MCK extenders off a Norstar switch over a similar wireless system with great results.

DHCINC - They are going to want a visa machine in the concession stand. Does your setup support analog modems over voip? According to Multitech, they will support fax calling but not modems. Must have something to do with the compression they use.

Their website seems to have conflicting information if modems work or not. You may want to call their tech support to discuss. We are running multiple fax machines with no problems but I have not tried a modem connection yet.

If you're using a voice over IP system... couldn't you get an IP based credit card terminal? I think so.

Ahhh - but here's the catch: The multipoint wireless bridge would only be used for voice communications. There would be no connection to our Lan. Why, you ask? A mandate from our networking group that there will be no wireless networking anywhere on campus due to security issues.

Hmm. Hate it when those damn governing agencies get involved. Even if the wireless bridge used session encryption... and restricted access only to the MAC address of the switch in the remote building? It seems like they'd modify the policy for this issue, but there's another forum for this topic I suppose.

Oh well, it was an idea. What if you did a wireless LAN not connected to your main network... and fed credit card requests modem emulation... that would work.

I need to find that info for the wireless bridge designed for remote homes, I know it had modem capability. Let me check into that. I saw it on the back of some cabling or outside plant magazine...

Thanks guys! This could be what I am looking for. I'll check it out.
