Hi.

We have been struggling for sometime now with what looks like the same problem as most people. We are running XP SP2, on a domain with 2000 servers. 2 similar problems. 1) we have mobile workers who turn on their machines (using My Docs off line)they then connect to the office network using Cisco VPN. upon connection, the click on the off-line
files icon. this then syncs any documents that need to be. after no fixed period of time, (still connected to the VPN) the offline files icon drops out and were working on the offline files again. this isalso now happening on the local LAN. 2) we have long been having problems where users (again home users using off-line files) log in and
all the files in the my documents folder have gone (all bar 2 defaults). HELP. this is becoming a major pain and probably 30%-40% of our workload.

I have looked at all the suggested posts, but the only thing we can check is the fast user switching. as we are on a domain, this is not an option to check. what i plan to do is put the machine back onto a local workgroup, check the fast user switching. any help would be greatfully recieved.

Fast user switching is disabled for a Domain member. No ifs ands or buts about it. Your problem does not lie here.

What as a guess is the issue is the settings for slow link speed and possibly other settings for offline files. This is a group policy setting:

Computer Configuration
Adminitrative Templates
Network
Offline Files
Configure slow link speed
Configures the threshold value at which Offline Files considers a network connection to be "slow". Any network speed below this value is considered to be slow.

When a connection is considered slow, Offline Files automatically adjust its behavior to avoid excessive synchronization traffic and will not automatically reconnect to a server when the presence of a server is detected.

If you enable this setting, you can configure the threshold value that will be used to determine a slow network connection.

If this setting is disabled or not configured, the default threshold value of 64,000 bps is used to determine if a network connection is considered to be slow.

Note: Use the following formula when entering the slow link value: [ bps / 100]. For example, if you want to set a threshold value of 128,000 bps, enter a value of 1280.

You should carefully examine each policy under Offline files, as I suspect you will discover why the local cache disappears as well.
