Can anyone tell or point me to some documentation that would tell me how many clients can associate/connect to a Cisco AIR-LAP1242AG? Configured as 802.11a band only.

thanks

Here is an excerpt from the "Cisco Aironet Access Point FAQ" page. The quoted question and answer can be found about 1/4 of the way down within the linked page.

Q. How many clients can associate to the AP?

A. The AP has the physical capacity to handle 2048 MAC addresses, but, because the AP is a shared medium and acts as a wireless hub, the performance of each user decreases as the number of users increases on an individual AP. Ideally, not more than 24 clients can associate with the AP because the throughput of the AP is reduced with each client that associates to the AP.

Yup people forget that it is a shared medium . If its a ""G" radio you have a 54 meg pipe , if you have say 20 users that gives each user about 2.5 meg but in a shared medium things get much slower at about 35% of that bandwidth . You can see how fast things slow down. At 20 users I'll gurantee it will be slo Have seen it many times.

Aren't you really only getting 27MBps anyway, with one user?

Actual thruput even under ideal circumstance on wireless is going to be a lot less than 54 meg , I have seen studies and was amazed how little actual thruput you got on a "G" . Maybe it will be better once "N" radios become standard but thats a ways away in our environment.
