I am trying to model our Electric Car (you can see it at and The top black canopy, I just can't model it. I've tried modelling by using Editable Mesh of a cylinder, a FFD Mofifier (cylinder) and moving that around, as well as using combinations of Mesh Smooth and the above. Unfortunatly, no matter what I do, points still stick out, and it doesn't look smooth, and on top of that, it doesn't look much like the top canopy. Can someone please help guide me, I've been working on this for a few days now and I could really go for some tips/tricks to get this going. Thank you.

There are two simle way that you could modeling it easy.

1. Create a simle sphere and modify it with some tapper modifier until you get that egg like model. After that add a simple boolean operation tha cut the cockpit part...

2. Use splines and a surface modifier. Check the tutorial how to do this. I thing this is the best way to earn that shape exactly.

Good luck,

I prefer the new 3dsmax 5 modifier called Shymmery when I'm modelling any shymmetrical object. You shold do that too. It is VERY usefull!

box modelling should work to. Our you can also use planes to model with.

Yepp. Box modeling is an easiest way to modelling nearly anithing U want. Especially 3DSMax 5 feature called Editable Poly. U should try & try & try and U have the clue...

Looking at the picture i would say that your best bet would be to use NURBS. It would be easier to tweak that really smooth surface.
