I have a rather odd request, can the Nortel PBX use a * in a CDP/DSP dial string? We will be connecting a PRI to a Cisco gateway. The Call Manager is set up to dial 9 for all PSTN calls and *-Location Code-4 digit DN for all on-net calls. i.e. CCM phone will dial *5005353 to connect to DN 5353 at location 500…Question, Can the Nortel PBX have a CDP/DSC built as *500xxxx ?? or will I have to set up some FFC ?? Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!!

You just wamt top route all calls starting with 500 to CM ?

If so then just set up a DSC/TSC with 500 with a flen of 7 and RLI pointing to the CM. Any call starting with 500 xxxx will route via the CM

Thanks for getting back to me, Wayne
All of the CM users dial * as the leading digit when dialing other locations. The customer is now adding a M1 to the mix and would like all of the M1 users to dial other CM locations the same way that the CM end-users dial…If dialing a * as the leading is an issue for CDP, could we have a DMI entry that inserts the *…Thanks Man!

The * is already in use in there CM environment. They want to use * for all on-net calls??? But I was able to come up w/ the following:
A Route List entry can be associated with a digit manipulation table. A DMI table can insert up to 24 leading digits, including the asterisk.
So in short M1 end-users trying to dial a CCM end-user in location 500 will dial for example, 5005353, which will have a CDP entry that points to a RLI associated to the PRI’s connecting the the PBX and the CCM gateway. This RLI will have a DMI entry that will add the * . So *5005353 will be sent the CCM. And the call will be off on its merry way thur the CCM network?..When we get it all set up I will let you know how I make out…Do you anticipate any issues?

I thought the * in a DMI denoted a 1s pause

You may need to program the INST as # (end of dial delimiter)before the *, although I'd try with just the * first.

You are making a rod for your own back. If the users do not have to enter the * and the M1 only inserts it why doe steh M1 ned it is it only for Node ID fo rteh CM?. Do CM users need to enter a * to make the On-Net call? i.e is there a route pattern for *500 why don`t you just send the 500 to the CM and set up anaather route in CM for 500 to follow the same route pattern as the *500

Part of the CM is already in place, it is going to get rather large (200 sites) w/ overlapping DN’s all over the place and end-user unwilling to give up there current DID #…They currently dial the * in the CM world, why…good question, that is what they want….The M1 is new to the mix ( a company that they just purchased ) And they want to add the M1 users to the CM dialing plan…The M1 users do not have to dial a star now to call their sites, so I am trying to come up with a solution w/ the * as not to change what is already in place in their CM world…How much traffic there will be between the two sites remains to be seen …we will see if the M1 can handle the *....
