Yes there are linked tables but I am the only one to change these.
I have compacted and repaired.
Just created new table with same structure, ran an append query from the old file to the new, then tried same query on the new file and it worked.
File corrupted ??
Just saw a post the other day about an index being corrupted, and I have experienced some cases where some rows in a table become "?????", so I guess it could have just been the table.
In the past when faced with these unknown type of issues, usually had to get the system back up quickly, so couldn't afford too much debug time. I would usually create an empty database, then import every object (plus settings) and test it. If it worked, then just gave that to the users then went back to try and find the original cause.
Your solution seems to have fixed the issue, but just remember to make a full copy of the database for backup purposes in case you later discover another issue.
Good Luck!
