Hi - changing over from Quark to InDesign so excuse my naivete; on imported text a grey, horizontal line appears after every return and cannot be removed - if you delete the return the line disappears, if the return is replaced, so is the line... Any ideas?

I don't know what you mean by importing text form Quark. If you're not doing so, try using the Open command in Indesign and picj the Quark doc.

You might also go to the ID type menu and see if "show hidden characters" is checked. A line at the end of a line indicates a forced line break within a paragraph. That's different than a regular "return" which gives the backwards P for "paragraph".

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

Thank You very much - I realised that some helpful soul had 'played' with In Design before me (suspect son he has a shifty eye) and had made some paragraph rules... i think I got it now but thank you so very much, to respond to a stranger's cry is Samaritan in the extreme and I appreciate it...

May all your proofs be approved!

Trevor
