Odd issue with date period in GL

Mas200 3.71. when a user logins in, opens a company's GL, enters a date period, all is well. then the person exits the gl, then re-enters and tries to enter a date period, it says he is not allowed to do that option. I must then re-set the server to allow the person to enter the gl and change the date period.

Any suggestions to bizzarro issue??

HAVE YOU CLOSED OUT THE PREVIOUS MONTH? WHAT ERROR ARE YOU GETTING? TRY UPDATING THE G/L AND SEE IF THAT WORKS.
