I am new to InDesign and am working with a template that has been created by an outside agency. We've just bought some new fonts, including some of the Helvetica family; the problem I’m having is that when I import my text from Word, ID registers 'Helvetica Regular' as a missing font. I don't have Helvetica Regular but I do have plain old 'Helvetica' - and this is the font I need to use.

I've been reading up about fonts in my InDesign book and it tells me that "when you choose a font from the font sub menu of the type menu, you must select both the font family and a specific type style". Can I get InDesign to let me use Helvetica without having to choose a specific type style? As far as I'm aware, Helvetica Regular (as well as the other font that is registered as missing by ID: Helvetica Roman) are plain old Helvetica - that is they look the same and will serve our purposes, unlike the condensed/italic/bold etc. variations of Helvetica.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Kirsty

Helvetica Plain/Roman/Regular/Medium are all the same style.

Can I get InDesign to let me use Helvetica without having to choose a specific type style?

No: The absence of a style in other layout programs is the same as Plain/Roman/Regular/Medium in InDesign.

Just go to the 'Type>Find Font...' menu item and replace the uninstalled fonts with what you have available.
