Odd drive mount issue

Hi All.
I have a 2003 server that has a drive V: listed in Explorer as Local Disk (V:)
The drive appears to be a mount point to a folder on the C: drive but when I look at it under Disk Management there do not appear to be any set mount points.

There is one physical hard drive partitioned to drives C: and D:. One folder on the C: drive is shared out as VIPSVR. This is the folder that the V: drive is pointing to.

I want to remove the drive but I cannot tell how it came into existence or how to disconnect it. Disk Management only shows partitions C: and D: and has no mount points listed under them.

Thoughts?

At my age I still learn something new every day, but I forget two others.

Mount points don't show up in disk management as they are not disks. Right click V, properties. Might tell you something.

Other option is if you are using junction point. You can see if the junction point files are installed on C and remove the JP.

Sure they do. Right click on a drive in Disk Manager and select the option to change drive letters and you can add/remove mount points from there.
I had cleared a mount point like this from another server but this one baffles me cause it does not show up in Disk Management.

Ooh. Thanks - good job I didn't bring that one up in a meeting!!

Are you running junction point? What about net use? (Don't think it works for local drives but might be \\itself\c$)

see if fsutil can help to shed some light on that

It is kinda buried. I had no idea it was there until I researched how to remove a mount point. But this other drive does not seem to be mounted in any manner I am familiar with.

Nothing useful. It tells me it is a fixed disk. Gives basic info like size, free space, etc. But nothing hinting towards how it is mounted.

Net Use does not show the drive at all, only the two mapped drives on the system.
I am at a loss. There is only one drive in the system with partitions for C: and D:. Drive V: is just pointing at a folder on the C: drive but I have no idea how it is mounted to remove it.

There is a command to dismount a volume in fsutil but I did not want to play with that until I could discover the nature of the mount to begin with as it is a production server and I do not want to take chances.

Does it matter that you have this extra drive? Maybe "step away from the server" is a good plan?

Someone must have put it there - is there a big group of suspects?
