ODBC with Btrieve 6.15 connection, No Tables Found after Connection. 1

Here is the background of what is happening in the system before I state the problem I am having. We have numerous individual btrieve files working in conjunction with random access files on a visual basic and DOS QBasic system where no DDF files were required. Upgrading to a newer version of Btrieve is not an option for us due to customer base we have. I have created a DDF file for our main betrieve file and placed it in the same directory with the btrieve file and then created an odbc connection pointing to that location, however when I try using access to link in there is no table to be linked in. I am new to btrieve so I may be missing some steps. Any and All help would be greatly appriciated.

When you say that you "created a DDF file for our main betrieve file", do you mean that you defined the table using Smithware's DDF Builder, a Create Table SQL statement, BTSearch32, or some other DDF Building tool? If not, then the reason that you don't see any tables defined is that none are defined. Btrieve Data files do not inherently require DDF files. The only time DDFs are required (with Btrieve v6.15) is with the Smithware ActiveX controls or with ODBC. The DDFs defined the Btrieve files to the ODBC driver/application. If you created an ODBC DSN and it said something like "DDFs were not found, would you like to create them" and you answered "yes" to create them, all it did was create three (FILE.DDF, FIELD.DDF, and INDEX.DDF) empty files that can be used to define a database. You'll need to use a tool like Smithware's DDF Builder (if you've got it), BTSearch32, or CREATE TABLE statements to create the entries in the DDFs.
