We have a user that connects via VPN and usually remotes into a desktop here that runs an Access front end Order Management system with a SQL backend. We are tyring to set her up so that she can run the Order Management system directly from her laptop.

When trying to set up the System DSN ODBC connection, I notice somthing odd. Usually when you get to the screen where you put in the name, description, and server all the servers we have available appear in the dropdown, but not for her. We tried to key in the server name and IP and get an error message (which of course I dont have a screen print of).

We pinged the server and IP from her machine and can connect to it no problem.

Is there a step in the process that I am missing?

Thanks for your help

Hi,

I fear that your user might experience serious processing overhead, downloading all that data over the "wire"

I open my VPN and run lots of ODBC stuff nearly every day. No problem with that!

Also, could there be somthing that I have to configure within SQL to allow certain subnets to be able to gain access?

Do you see some sort of options button? Be sure that you can view...
