Using Crystal Reports Professional version 8.5 and linking to Access query as datasource, which is reading both a SQL table and an Access table (to get left outer join on Access table).

I am unable to access the data - Message I receive is

"ODBC SQL SERVER DRIVER TIME OUT - EXPIRED ODBC - CALL FAILED"

Is there any way for me to reset the time allowed by the server? Any suggestions on how to make this work?

I need a left outer join to a database table, and this is the best approach I have seen.

Many thanks.

Try This:

In Access, right click a blank space in the Query Design,
Properties, ODBC Timeout,

Change the value from 60 to a larger value (or to zero)

hth,
- Ido

CUT, Visual CUT, and DataLink Viewer:
view, e-mail, export, burst, distribute, and schedule Crystal Reports.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware that you could do that.

Unfortunately, it still crashes. I'll have to try another approach...like perhaps a subreport for each category.

Thanks for your help.

What does "it still crashes mean"?

Is it crashing or are you getting the same error?

What did you increase the timeout to?

There may be settings on the SQL Server preventing this.

Check with your DBA to determine if they have a time-out specified for connections also.

I have a perpetual hour glass....no results.

I'll check with the DBA to determine if there is a time-out specification on the SQL end.

Perpetual hourglass implies that it's still running.

Try filtering the Access query substantially, such as for a single date, then loosen the filter in small steps to see what happens.
