ODBC set up for OLE db

Is there a wat to set up an ODBC setting for a connection through ole db (ado)? I can set this up to run a query in Crystal Reports XI but not anywhere else. I am running Windows XP with Office 2003 and am trying to use MSQuery to view records on our server for Active Directory but an unable to make the conenction.
Any thoughts?
