Hi, I an MFC ODBC Program. And I am trying to find out how to or if there is a program already made to load the database into the client computer when the program is first run or when the installer is run. I'm sure there is one but I don't know where to look. If you could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

This would typically be an installation task.

If your using a specific database the vendor should supply deployment information about the product.

ok let me clear that up i kinda typed it fast and a little hard to understand. I have a program that is using a database and it is a specific database for the program. I need some type of thing to install the database on the computer and initialize it in windows so that the program will run correctly.

If someone knows this answer to this one, I'd like to know also! I tried using Install Shield to load the database into the "Data Sources" located in control panel, but did not have much success. Is there another program that can easily do this? Or is it possible through MFC?

Regards,
Jeff

Well, since nobody could help me I had to help myself. I looked around the web for several hours before I found out that InstallShield does in fact have the capabilities to register data sources in windows. However, I also found out the copy of intallshield I have is just a demo and that the full version was right around $3,000!

So in case anyone else is wondering, I did find another install program called Inno Setup that acts just like InstallShield except that it is FREE! They even provide
the source code so long as you don't modify the copyrighted regions of code.

Check it out at:
