ODBC link into Ingres - rather slow

Hi,

We've set up and ODBC link from SQL server 7.0 into an ingres database. A simple query is taking 9 minutes to bring back results.

I've tested several different ways:-

1. ODBC driver on my PC and doing the same query via a VB program, this takes 7 seconds.

2. Doing the same query via access which brings back the results instantaneously.

I know it can a mixture of a number of things but I was just wondering if anyone has experienced this and could suggest something save me routing around (which is taking age).
