Hi,

I want to set up an ODBC link for Oracle.
Can anyone tell me the name of the disk/driver that i need for that.

Thanks,

Joe

What are you linking this Oracle database to? Another Oracle database or something else like MS Access? If it is Oracle, then you don't need any special driver, as you already have the Oracle client installed. Just create the database link as covered in the documentation.

If it is something else, then you will need to make sure that the Oracle Client is installed. After that, you need to create an ODBC DSN connection in control panel.

Let us know if that helps... Terry M. Hoey

Hi, i'm connecting from access to oracle.
I have done all the steps you outlined above, but when i go to link to the oracle tables, i am asked for a password, which i did not specify in the ODBC PART OF CONTROL PANEL??

Since you didn't specify it, they will have to enter it. You can either go back and specify it, give the password to them or pass the password in the code that creates the link. I think you would be better of asking this question in the MS Access forums, as I know I have seen this discussed there. You might even want (should) do a search there, since someone has probably already answered it. Terry M. Hoey

More details...

As mentioned, in any client PC you want to connect to the database, install the Oracle Client. Then reboot. Go to Control Panel, ODBC. Click on the System DSN tab and create a MS Oracle ODBC data source - enter the data source name and the Server name (instance name).

Reference the data source name in whatever application is connecting to Oracle, such as linking Access to the database.
