ODBC Freeze

We have a sequence of calls to a SQL server via ODBC that we use to poulate an OLAP server.

This generally works very well, however we occasionaly get part the way through the sequence and the OLAP server freezes. It is not the same part of the sequence each time.

There are many areas for us to investigate as to the cause of this.

Does anyone have any experience of an ODBC call hanging and if so what can be done to resolve this?

(Could not get the forum serach functionality to work or running v slow so sorry if this has been covered elsewhere)

We are in process of checking what MDAC we have and upgrading.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

After further testing it appears that this is a problem with the ODBC connection and its interaction with the SQL server.

Either the ODBC connection or the SQL server or the SQL job is going to sleep in some way part the way through the load. Once the task has frozen if we Test the ODBC connection to the SQL server then the task wakes up and continues.

This happens even if we test an ODBC connection to the SQL server from another machine.

All a bit odd, my guess is that there’s a setting somewhere that is messing us up. Does anyone have any ideas where to look?

Hav updated the MDAC on all machines involved.
