1. ORA 01034 - Oracle not available

sometimes i get the ff error

ORA 12154 TNS could not resolve Service Name

kindly assist.

I wanted to use the Oracle connection to get data out from an Oracle table to Access Database or SQL Server

kindly help

Hi,

when you use the ODBC-driver supplied with the Oracle-client you're asked for:
Data Source Name: this is what you use to reference the connection
Description: optional
TNS Service Name: a dropdown list of entries in your tnsnames.ora
User name: optional - existing DB-user

Stefan

thanks for your post and i got the details there but you've not addressed the problem of
Oracle not available and

TNS could not resolve names
thanks

Try tnsping on the workstation you try to connect from using the name you entered at "TNS Service Name".
ORA 12154 says you used a misspelled name.
ORA 01034 says you try to connect to a database, which is not running.

Stefan

am i to run the tnsping command from dos prompt i.e command line
what do i do when this error message comes up
