Hi,

does anyone know how I could connect to a Timberline database without installing the client application? I have been unable to locate an ODBC driver for Timberline on Pervasive. Does anyone know if there is another "generic" driver I can use or how/where I can obtain the ODBC driver.

FYI: I am going to connect via a DTS package and do not want to install the Timberline application on the server.

Thanks in advance for any ideas..

Mike

Mike;

I don't have a solution, just the opposite. I too need to connect to the Timberline database and do not want to install the client application. Have you found a solution?

Hi, below is how I did it. This is a Cut/Pasted from a rough draft document. Good luck.

---------------------------------------------------
(1) Run the Timberline install from the CD.
(2) Install the Pre-requisites (can't get around this, and likely require a reboot)
(3) Select Install the Accounting software
(3.1) Enter Registration name "Company name"
(3.2) Enter client number
(3.3) Enter ODBC activation code
(4) Complete the install.
(5) Set up an ODBC DSN to the Timberline server through the ODBC Administrator.
--------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------
**Setup of ODBC connection to Timberline**
A key part of the connection is to ensure the drive letters are mapped to the Timberline installation correctly. Without this mapping the only tables visible from Timberline are some high level system tables that advertise the company name as the owners of the DB. The sequence for correct ODBC connectivity should be:
(1) Map a network drive to the Timberline server folder that is the Timberline share on the network.
(2) Install the ODBC driver (see first issue above).
We corrected this process post-installation by adjusting the Timberline registry settings where the drive mappings were stored.

----------------------------
Hope this helps..
