How do I create external views in a MS VisFoxPro5.0 Database using ODBC that will allow only SPECIFIC MEMBERS of a Physical File on the AS400 to be accessed? I am using the ODBC Manager supplied by Client Access (The software supplied with AS400s to allow interconnectivity with a Windows network or PC). I have attempted to create external views in my FoxPro Project Database using both 'Connections' and 'Avail. Data Sources'. I have tried specifying the Member by using '.' and by using parentheses. Does anyone know a connection string syntax that might help me?

One suggestion is to create logical file views over the specific physical file member(s) to which you want to provide access. CRTLF & some DDS specifiying the columns (fields) will suffice. Ensure proper authority is provided if you allow adds, updates, deletes in addition to *USE (Read & Execute).<br>
<br>
Also, if you want to prevent access (directly) to the original physical files, change the authority to *EXCLUDE *PUBLIC.

Do you have the correct ODBC Drivers is my first question? <p>Randal Cooke<br><a href=mailto:randy.cooke@elkviewcoal.com>randy.cooke@elkviewcoal.com</a><br><a href= Mining</a><br>Just another Techno Super Freak Wannabe....Sigh.

I am interested in an ODBC connection from VB or ASP to an AS400. Any help would be appreciated. My intent (to start) is to be able to run simple queries from the database.

Thank you!
