Can anyone tell me how I can link a dbf file that is written in Clipper to Access. I am told that I might need an ODBC Clipper Driver. If so... can anyone tell me where I might get this driver?
There are subtle differences between different versions of dbf files but you can often use the link options for dBase III, IV or V to read Clipper data.
I've been successful reading Clipper with the dBase IV ODBC driver ... however ...
Clipper supports replacable index/memo drivers. The "standard" is the "ntx" index (as it is in dBase). Many Clipper developers used third-party drivers and most of them are not supported (notably the nsx indexes from SuccessWare ... long since out of business in that area.) That doesn't present a problem other than slow performance. Where it does cause problems is that the memo-field format from those third-party packages is also not supported and ODBC can't open a Clipper DBF that has a memo field if it is stored in one of those unsupported drivers.
That's probably way more than you wanted to know ... but now you know it anyway.
