ODBC and Word XP Merge

When I try to connect to an ODBC data source to do a Word merge I get an error. It is often "Record 1 contains too few data fields" popping up several times, although the error varries depending on how I try to connect. No matter what, the data source is not found.

This is using Office XP, Office 2000 works fine.

It happens with most ODBC sources but cvs works fine.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
