I've been asked to look at a system in the office. LIST USERS works OK and it tells me there are 1494 out of 5000 mailboxes. Then I add a few, it goes over 1500 and will take no more. Is this a physical capacity (5,000) as against licences number (1,500) issue ?

L F does not work. How can I check licences number ?

I'll want to start shedding mailboxes if I think they're unused; are there any reporting commands to help me uncover inactive mailboxes?

many thanks

Are you doing the L F command at the @ sign and not at the dot prompt? I'm guessing you only have 1500 authorized mailboxes.

Look at User Status Detail report. Type L R at the @ sign and then report 8.

thanks for the info there. I have only seen the . prompt which leads to a : prompt within a command. How do I get into the @ prompt ?

thanks again

When you first log in from the PASSWORD: prompt you should get an @ sign

I assumed you were on an Octel 200 or 300. Do you know what type of Octel system you have?

If your "screen prompt" is a point (.), then do a "e" for exit and leave the update menu.
If you logon normally you will enter your password and obtain an @.prompt. Hereafter press "u" for update and you can do :
.a user to add a user.
.d user to delete a user.
.m user s to reset the password for a mailbox.
.e to exit.
In the @-prompt you can see licenses and alarms.
try:
@L F for licenses.
@L H for alarms.
@T for time
@PS for status of the ports (lines) between the pbx and octel voice mail server.

Hope this helped you a bit.

Thanks both. Accessing our Octel 200 it starts in the UPDATE Mode with . prompt and does the 4 things. Then .e gets to the @ prompt and I can do the L things you mention above; particularly L R 3 which is very useful.

After that it's @UP back to the UPDATE area.

I have to be careful because in the UK there is no obvious support for the Octel and I can't risk breaking it just yet.

Thanks again.

Hi Kenny

Can you do a @PS to see the port status?
Then you are logged in with the higest password level.
Try to do a @L H to see the alarm logg.
You can paste it here to get further explanation.
To check your harddisk a @DEX 1 can be done. This command scans the HDD for defective sectors.
The printout should be "many" zero's. A digit higher than zero (0) indicate a sector fault.
You can run these commands and post the result here for explanation.
These commands are not dangerous for the system.

And, yes, you are right. As these systems are not sold any more and spareparts (sometimes) are hard to find, you have to take extra care of your Octel voice mail sever.
