Octel (VMX) 200 1

We're a small UK-based (Scotland) ISP providing stand-alone, automated SD menu & name/address capture, fax-on-demand solutions to a wide range of clients via our 30 port Octel (VMX) 200. We have a linked Octel Designer Server delivering adanced solutions, all from around 1999-2000 origins.

We have a serious power problem. A possible power surge last week - switching on now only sets the fan rolling! No activity on the line cards or on either of the two drives. Main fuses appear (?) ok. Can anyone please advise on a solution? What to look for? What to try? Source of spare parts, once the problem has been identified? I understand the 'Serenade' software but the hardware is a mystery!

These Serenades are very stable and reliable, but all good stuff has its end.
Let me know what light is on (the diodes on the printed circuit boards inside)?
An OCTEL Serenade 200 will have 9 hardware slots.
From the left you have slot 1---9 (at the right side).
The board in slot=9 is the CPU, and it should have green light.
The board in slot=8 is the harddisk controller board (VCU),
and it should have green light.
The line cards are in slot=1 to 4. What LED has light (red/green)? (Hope for green light!)
In general the green light gives us hope!
Red light means board failure.
Our company have more than 50 of these systems running, and some of the systems have been running for more than 14 years witout problems.
The line cards, power supply and the HDD are the parts that we have swapped most, but it seems that the PS is OK.
Can you log-on to the system?

On the front of the PSU (Power Supply Unit) on the far right of the inside of the cabinet is a small fuse socket. If you unscrew it inside is a 'glass' fuse. Below, attached to the actual wall of the cabinet is a spare fuse holder that should have a spare in it. You could start there. If necessary I may be able to source a spare PSU.

Thanks doktor & jon ... no lights come on at all on any of the components you list - just the fan, so it appears the PSU is the problem? The fuse is intact. Thanks, John.

I think that you will have to swap your PSU (power supply unit). I cannot supply you with spare parts, so you can contact the vendor listed or try the ebay auctions.
