I have got reported a strange reply from an OCTEL VMX-200 R.7.1.5: OTHER TERMINAL USING MEMORY.
This reply is observed when I try to go to the update menu
@U or when writing @PS (port status).
There is no problem with DEX 1, L H, L F or C H, C P.

Maybe a restart will help.
All voice mail facilities seems to operate as they should.
Thanx in advance /// doktor

Still using Rel 7?

Not seen this error anywhere before and I think your suggestion of a restart is probably best. If this is still a problem, let me know and I will ask around some colleagues at Avaya who are (were) level 9 engineers.

Dear Jon

Nice to hear from you.
After all these years working with VMX/OCTEL, I never saw this response...
Release R.7.1.5 is still used at quite a few of our customers. It is stable and reliable, so I wasn't busy to upgrade any of these.
We will restart it on Monday and see if the memory will be relased.

Please let me know the outcome, I am curious. What do you use to connect? ProComm+, HyperTerminal or something else?

Jon

Jon
As Ericcson dealer we allways use Winfiol for remote connections, but of course Procomm or Hyperteninal can be used.
I am also curious about what will happen after the restart.
We will dispatch a techician to be on-site with CPU and VCU before the restart will take place.

A restart did the job.
@RESTA solved the problem by clearing the memory.
The customer was happy.

Well done, I am pleased the customer is happy, but I would still like to know what caused the error. I guess we will never know.

This also worries me...
But sometimes we will have to accept things (i.e. software) as it is.
We will of course watch this installation carefully in the future.
To do this our chief programmer - many years ago - made a PC program that every night dials in to all our VMX/Octel systems and list alarms (L H, PS, TE S and C H), makes a logfile. Then it divides the log file into OK and NOK systems and finally emails both log files to me...
Very excellent program, saves a lot of time.
