Has anyone heard about a particular bug in the Octel Sierra nad Lucent CA voicemail systems. We have been told that there is a bug in the processor and on March 14, 20011 the processor will revert back to 1984 and we were also told that there is not a fix for it. Has anyone heard about this.

Thanks

I assume you mean 2011 and not 20011? I have never heard on anything like that at all.

This is partially correct. The system uses 3 bytes to for the time stamp, which is the number of minutes since 1-1-1984. When that value gets to ffffff, the system time will roll back to 1-1-1984. So all times on the system will be wrong, such as message dates, error log entries, sms time stamps, future delivery messages and wake up calls.

For a stand alone Sierra or IMA-CA the roll over date is Nov 24, 2015.

For a cluster system, there is a system time token that gets passed between each station. It uses the same time stamp (1-1-1984) It is 4 bytes long, but it is in milliseconds. This will roll over on 3-22-2011.

This will also apply to any Octel-Avaya systems, if they are still in use, Aspen, Branch, 250, 350 etc.

It odd but we took 3 of our lab systems and had them roll from 3 22 2011 and 3 21 2011 and they are all showing the right date and time of 3 23 11 even after a reboot.

Are they clustered systems? If not, nothing will happen. If they are stand alone systems, you will need to test it with the date being 11/24/2015, the time will roll over at 8:15pm, and revert back to 1-1-1984. The system will still work, but the times will be wrong.
